Policy Committee: The State of Computer Science Education in NMMia Petersen2019-11-07T19:24:49+00:00

Computer science education is critical for all students and industries across New Mexico, but too few students and schools New Mexico are participating in it.

Join the NMTC Policy Committee for a presentation by Paige Prescott, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Computer Science Alliance and Jason Espinoza, lobbyist for the New Mexico Technology Council as they discuss the history, data, trends and policy opportunities to enhance computer science education in New Mexico.

To continue to position New Mexico as a leaders in tech, New Mexico must take a long-term, strategic approach to prepare all of its students with a computer science background, or risk being left behind. Occupations in computer science are expected to further drive our economy and add new jobs. If New Mexicans are going to be prepared to fill those jobs, we need to ensure our students have the skills they need to participate in a technological workplace.

Even outside the tech industry, whether a student goes into healthcare, agriculture, or the arts, nearly every industry relies on the foundational skills of computer science.
