What You Will Do
eXperience Information Technology (XIT) division is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Windows and Mac OS X System Administrator for the XIT Institutional Systems Services (XIT-ISS) group. XIT-ISS consists of approximately 115 professionals, technicians, and students. The successful candidate will work in XIT-ISS and will provide dedicated desktop support services to an assigned customer base in various locations across the laboratory. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day technical support services in a heterogeneous computing environment for XIT-ISS customers.

The successful candidate will perform the full spectrum of remote and field level Windows, Mac, and Linux desktop administration, including but not limited to:

  • Support Windows, Mac, and/or Linux desktop systems on the unclassified network

  • TicketMaster role and responsibilities for the team

  • Resolve issues or fulfill requests through remote desktop support

  • Troubleshoot issues through on-site field support

  • Install, configure and troubleshoot desktop, or mobile systems, workstations, and network issues, including wireless and role-based access control in a heterogeneous environment

  • Provide technical leadership and knowledge in support of a well-managed computing environment

  • Research new hardware and software tools and solutions

  • Communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel

  • Practice Information Architecture processes and standards

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of Windows and Mac OS X system administration

  • Experience solving complex desktop issues

  • Knowledge of troubleshooting network issues and experience implementing network security measures.

  • Experience solving complex software and hardware issues in a heterogeneous computing environment

  • Experience troubleshooting problems using Bomgar, SSH, or similar desktop automation to remotely administer systems

  • Experience with hardware or software hard drive encryption and software file encryption

  • Extensive experience interacting with customers and peers in a professional and responsive manner and giving presentations

  • Experience mentoring and training team members

  • Demonstrated strong problem solving skills and proven ability to work effectively with multiple groups and teams with little or no direct supervision

  • Demonstrated ability to use calendaring or scheduling software to maintain appointments and manage a time sensitive process

  • Experience implementing “Best Practices”, processes, and standards

  • Experience researching, installing, and troubleshooting hardware and software

  • Experience with Active Directory

  • Significant experience using a call tracking system including using it to resolve user issues

  • Experience working well in a team environment as well as working independently

  • Demonstrated outstanding customer service, including working with customers to resolve issues

Desired Skills:

  • Vendor certification (Apple Mac or Microsoft Windows)

  • UNIX/Linux system administration experience

  • Working knowledge or familiarity with Windows and/or Mac Server Administration

Education:Position typically requires a high school diploma and four-to-six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, including associate’s degrees and graduation from technical institutions.
